Business applications, more than a technologic evolution

Users cope with a constant growth of tasks regarding processes more and more intrusive in their professional life. This has led to numerous job functions for which the user needs the assistance of IT and complex systems.

In the last years, collaboration in real time with web applications has become a current function, used by everybody daily and for work. Let’s take the example of the number one. Google Drive transformed the sharing and the storage of documents between users. Evolution of web technologies makes possible advanced functions adapted to web and desktop applications.

Moreover, uses evolve and the user now wants to execute advanced tasks with simple tools. The IT system has to update its design to avoid training for users, even for rare uses.

Companies are looking for such efficiency, with business applications. For the reminder, a business application is an IT solution allowing digitalize, automate and organize internal processes of a company. Regarding digital transformation, companies develop many solutions answering new digital needs of management. Also, they understand that employees’ user experience is as essential as client’s experience. So, how develop custom-made applications and answer the new expectations of employees?

Business applications, external efficiency and internal productivity

Dedicated to employees, a business application provides functions improving productivity of users’ workstations, processing low value tasks and offering an agile work mode. The application is made for a “unique” employee. Screens with hundreds of buttons, among which  only 2 or 3 menus are useful for current tasks, are over. Thanks to applications it’s now possible to develop validation, products catalogs management, orders, invoices, time monitoring, MES, PLM, Projects… functions. Applications of specific content also exist, like a customer extranet application (as the one of Audros Technology).

For the company, benefits of a business app are numerous:

  • The application tool will evolve in order to maximize a process in the future
  • That’s a tool adjusted to complex and innovative projects
  • The company is owner of the customized tool, which means there’s no license cost.
  • That’s also a way to remain competitive during digital transformation
  • It allows the user avoid training, because it’s so much intuitive that it can be used occasionally by a random user

Between software package and application, companies will soon only decide on applications that offer a wider customization. In this way, they’ll get applications perfectly adjusted to the needs of each business profile, and that fits with all the company’s processes.
Beyond the technologic asset, users are convinced in the benefits of an ergonomic, intuitive and welcoming interface. Also, time saved is undeniable, thanks to a simplified use and users’ happiness working with a pleasant tool.

UX before technical efficiency!

Design has a part to play, even in a business application. We make efforts to design an application attractive to the public but we forget that employees are also clients who take part in the company’s productivity. We are in a collaborative management era and everyone has to be actor and co-designer of the product. We recommend involve users as much as possible in the application development. They would better identify potential inconsistencies between several functions, useless repetitions or an ergonomic default.
The employee is a demanding client. Always connected, he’s used to navigate on very efficient applications in his private life and he’s waiting for the same quality for a project management application provided by his company.
Employees expect tools with a real benefit, easy to use and intuitive. It’s necessary to do a specifications bill before. The application interface has to be shaped to enable first talks and accurate choices. It’s important to identify the various roles of company’s users, internal processes, location of data and current or future interactions between these data.
Dedicate time and people in user experience, UX, may seem excessive, expensive and time waste regarding the application delivery, from the direction’s point of view. But for a long time, design has been left behind technical efficiency, for the wrong reasons because IT solutions created too fast are meant to fail.

Employees’ commitment on applicative projects increase productivity, efficiency and motivation within the company. That’s a positive impact for the internal social life, which can only be improved. That’s the concept of attentions symmetry, created by the “academy of service”. Quality of the relation between a company and its clients is similar to the quality of the relation between this company and its employees. What if develop business applications helped you remain competitive and improve your employees’ work life in the same time?

Audros Technology understood that and has already began work on the development of applications to offer a fast, intuitive and graphic navigation of its PLM, EDM, TEDM and Projects solutions. In order to reach fast all business functions you need, our Extranet is already shaped as a business application. So stay tuned, the next version of Audros software hides great evolutions!
